Plotinus was an influential Greek philosopher and mystic who founded the Neoplatonic school of philosophy. He is widely considered to be one of the most important figures in the development of Western philosophy.
Plotinus was born in Egypt near Alexandria and became a student of Ammonius Saccas, the founder of Neoplatonism. After traveling around the Mediterranean, Plotinus settled in Rome and taught philosophy. He wrote the Enneads, a collection of his philosophical writings.
Plotinus had a profound influence on later Neoplatonists, including Augustine, Proclus, and Iamblichus. His teachings have also had an impact on Christian, Islamic, and Jewish thought. His legacy is still felt in modern philosophical thought, particularly in the fields of metaphysics and mysticism.
