Tertullianus (ca 155-ca 220)

Tertullian, full name Quintus Septimius Florens Tertullianus, was an early Christian author born around 155 AD in Carthage, a prominent city in Roman North Africa. A prolific writer and skilled rhetorician, Tertullian is often recognized as the father of Latin Christianity and a significant figure in the development of early Christian theology. Initially trained as a lawyer, his conversion to Christianity led to a fervent commitment to defending and promoting the faith through his writings. Tertullian’s works cover a wide range of topics, including apologetics, ethics, and doctrinal disputes, with notable contributions such as Apologeticus,” a defense of Christians against Roman persecution, and De Praescriptione Haereticorum,” which argues against heresies.
