How to interpret planets I: tropical zodiac signs and the Sun sign

While many people are familiar with their zodiac signs thanks to today’s media, which is determined by the tropical zodiac sign of the Sun in astrology, it’s essential to understand that astrology is not primarily focused on studying these signs or their correspondences with an individual’s character.

The ancient Greek astrologers who first used the tropical zodiac signs on the ecliptic in the first century were attempting to understand how planetary movements influenced the earth’s energy and caused earthly events, such as weather. They settled on the starting point of the Aries zodiac sign when the length of daytime and nighttime were equal, and the spring began.

The tropical zodiac signs are related to humour, energy, and seasons, but they are abstract and do not signify actual constellations. When different planets are in different tropical zodiac signs, they signify various energies.

When interpreting a person’s natal chart, the Sun sign represents achievements, life goals, intelligence, social status, and more. For example, if a person’s Sun is in Leo, it means they aspire to be a leader, refusing to be anonymous and invisible. Leo’s fiery humour inspires creativity, fun, and a desire to be the center of attention, even if the person is quiet when alone at home.
