Books age like humans. This magnificent copy of Arnaldus de Villanova’s Opera omnia dates from 1532. The cover is probably original, a simple limp vellum, a book for a scholar, not for a bibliophile, made almost 500 years ago and certainly shows it’s age. To find a book in this state does not happen often. Most books were rebound, in the 18th century by a collector, and even in the 20th century, if it had become part of a big public library. When a binding like this one is removed historical evidence is destroyed at the same time.
